Welcome to the Visual Arts Homepage.
The
Dallastown Area High School (DAHS) Fine Arts Department offers hands-on
studio art classes that introduce students to a variety of materials and
techniques in the creation of drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics,
computer graphics, and fibers. Originality, creativity, and
craftsmanship are stressed. Critical and creative thinking skills are
encouraged through hands-on application and written reflections and
evaluations. The portfolio development course is open to the serious art
student to prepare for application to the top art schools and colleges
in the country. We prepare for future art related careers by developing a
comprehensive portfolio cataloging their artistic growth through works
in progress, finished pieces, and ideas for future art work. Art history
helps students look at, talk about and write about art while promoting
cultural awareness.
Fine Arts students participate in a lot of
community art opportunities: National Scholastics Art, painting
Halloween windows in Dallastown,York County Community Against Racism,
Cultural Diversity Art at the York Jewish Community Center, permanent
art display in DAHS lobby, local bank displays, York Township Municipal
Building, face painting at elementary schools, t-shirt design for track
and field, Pennsylvania Clean Up, senior class party, etc. Art CAN make a
difference!
We have a chapter of the National Art Honor Society
based on art scholarship, classroom leadership, and character. Students
complete twenty art community service hours and graduate with honors.
All art students’ display there works in a DAHS art show.
