DAHS Students Give Back During Holiday Season

DAHS Students Give Back During Holiday Season

Wherever you look, the need for hope is apparent, perhaps more than ever. Nursing homes are no exception— in fact, the sentiment is even stronger. During this time, senior citizens are extremely isolated due to their vulnerability to Covid-19. What was once a season of celebration and gathering is now accompanied with a growing sense of anxiety and loneliness as families and friends cannot visit their loved ones in nursing homes and retirement facilities. This isolation takes an emotional toll on the residents.

With this in mind, DHS Health STAT Club President Lauren Garcia developed the project Cards of Hope for the Holidays with the goal of uplifting, encouraging, and providing hope and holiday cheer for senior citizens in the York community. This project was led by DHS Health STAT Club in partnership with DHS National Honor Society. A generous total of 1052 handwritten cards (when the goal was just 250!) is being distributed to every resident in 8 senior-living facilities this holiday season: Pleasant Acres (300), Country Meadows - Leader Heights (187), Country Meadows - York West (170), ManorCare Kingston Court (125), ManorCare York South (122), Rest Haven (50), SpiriTrust Lutheran (70), and ManorCare Dallastown (25).
